Spent the week in southern california, mostly Los Angeles, but also some awesome desert time near 29 Palms and Joshua Tree. I initially was hoping to photograph the dozens (maybe hundreds) of abandoned desert shacks out there, but I found we would have needed an off-road vehicle to get to them. I got a few, but will have to go back to get to the rest of them.
I was truly sad that LA smog and sprawl appears to be moving all the way out towards Joshua Tree National Forest. The traffic doesn't really relent either until almost Palm Springs itself. Very fucked. I would say "something needs to be done", but that would be a vulgar little idealism. If the Mojave becomes fuct, then we are past redemption. This was the first time parts of it didn't feel like the middle of nowhere.
