The Rivers Between Two Rivers

It has been 20 years since I graduated high school, and I would guess they are gonna have a reunion one way or another. For anthropological reasons, I would love to sit and listen to the stories that surely must be brewing about this summer of water. Uninteresting people leading interesting lives, if only for the duration of this crisis. HS was miserable for me, and I am in touch with the people from there who I enjoy, so I don't feel like I have any reason to go there, but as miserable as many of those people made me, I hope they all come out of this ok too. I think the whole notion of there even being A Heartland is bullshit, but there is something sturdy in midwestern people.

The Excitement Continues

We don't know the names of the overwhelming majority of athletes from all of human history because what they did is singularly unimportant, and speaks next to nothing to the human condition. If any male children I have were to never ask to play any sport, I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest; whereas if they won't play a musical instrument or paint or draw or make movies, I will be

I think we recall old fighters more than players from other sports in part because fighting is much more cerebral than many other athletic pursuits. With the cross-pollenization of cultures being what it is, we now have the input of the world's different fighting styles, and with the rise of MMA, we have a real outlet for them. It takes so much mental accuity to be able to master one, let alone multiple, fighting styles, that there does begin to be aspects of the sport that have actual meaning. You can't be a total meathead and a master of
